For those wondering what OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) is, it is characterized as “a mental health disorder that affects people of all ages and walks of life, and occurs when a person gets caught in a cycle of obsessions and compulsions,” according to the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation.
With that out of the way, you might be wondering who I am. On the surface, I am not particularly unique. I am a Canadian, a father, a husband, an athlete, a gamer, a truck driver by trade. What makes me different is my condition. Approximately 1 out of 40 people in the U.S alone have OCD according to BeyondOCD.org.
Now that I’ve introduced myself, you might be questioning what this site is all about. Simply put, my objectives are;
- To share my history, present and future as it relates to OCD.
- To be a voice to those who are struggling.
- To enlighten those who are also suffering with the possiblity of recovery using both traditional therapy and new breakthrough science.
- Experience these treatments and pass this knowledge onto my readers.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I am not a therapist. I’m learning new things about OCD all the time. Science and our understanding of how OCD affects our brain are changing rapidly.
With that said, my intentions are to create a safe space for myself and guest contributors to discuss all things OCD. I will always do my utmost to ensure I am giving true insight to my thoughts and feelings. Stay tuned for regular blog posts related to all things OCD. May we all find peace and love!
